Safeway is once again running their 4x rewards when you buy gift cards promo! Your rewards can then be used to save you cents off at the gas pump. Saving on fuel is always hard, so when I see promotions like this I get super excited. Here’s what you need to know:
- For a limited time you can earn 4x the points for select gift card purchases (exclusions: American Express, PayPower, MasterCard, My Choice, Safeway, Visa, Only 1 Visa, Netspend and RE-loadit Gift Cards).
- Points are earned as follows:
- Every $1 spent on groceries = 1 point
- Every $1 spent on qualifying gift cards = 8 points for a limited time (normally 2 points)
- Every prescription filled = 50 points
- Points can be redeemed as follows:
- 100 points = 10¢ per gallon reward
- 200 points = 20¢ per gallon reward
- 500 points = 50¢ per gallon reward
- 1000 points = $1 per gallon reward
- Rewards expire the end of the following month in which they were earned.
- Previous and current months’ points do not combine.
- You will be given the option at the pump to choose how many points you redeem towards your rewards.

If you plan on doing some shopping or dining out, I would suggest stopping by Safeway first and snagging a gift card. This way you’re getting your gas rewards for money you were already going to be spending! This really helps cut the costs at the pump, and at $4+ a gallon I’ll take any savings I can get.
