Rite Aid Beginner’s Guide

January 13, 2011 by Ashley

Rite Aid is a fantastic store for coupon shopping; they often have great sales that, when paired with a coupon, make for some amazing deals!  To make your trip a little easier, take a look at some of the things you should know when shopping at Rite Aid:
Rite Aid Coupon Acceptance Policy:
First thing first, print out a copy of the Rite Aid Coupon Policy.  It never hurts to have back-up when defending the use of a coupon.  Personally, I’ve only had to whip it out once as I find that most times Rite Aid employees are well educated on their store’s acceptance policy.  But to be on the safe side, it’s always best to keep a copy with you.
Wellness+ Card:
In order to get the sale prices and +Up rewards advertised in the weekly circular, you must sign up for Rite Aid’s loyalty card called the Wellness+ Card.  Not only does this card entitle you to the sale prices on advertised items, but it also allows you to earn various money-saving rewards:
•10% off Rite Aid Brand products
•24/7 exclusive access to a pharmacist (Dial 1-800-RITEAID)
And you earn points every time you shop:
•Earn one point for every dollar spent on non-prescription purchases. And 25 points for every prescription purchase.   The more points you accumulate the better your rewards get.
Member Level Points Rewards:
Plus:      For every 125 points,  a one-time 10% off shopping pass
Silver+:  500 points, a 10% off all non-prescription purchases every day and a free health screening.
Gold+:   1,000 points, 20% off all non-prescription points purchases every day
*All members are enrolled at the plus level and can earn their way to silver+ and gold+.
+Up Rewards

My absolute favorite part of shopping at Rite Aid is their +Up rewards program; each week new items are advertised as offering +Up rewards with purchase, which will then print out at the end of your receipt after completing your transaction.  These rewards are store coupons that can be used like cash on most items in the store (they do exclude prescriptions, lottery tickets, tobacco, alcohol, money orders, prepaid cards, stamps, licenses, mailing services and in some states milk).  Each +Up reward is limited to the card you used to get it, meaning you must use the same Wellness+ card to both generate and use these rewards; you MUST use your Wellness+ card to get and redeem these!

The thing I like best about this program is that there are rarely limits to the number of +Up rewards you can earn (if there is a limit, it should say in the ad), though they do have expiration dates (normally two weeks from the date of the end of the sale that produced them) and you cannot leave a balance on them.  These can be applied to any subtotal, but cannot be used for tax and have no cash value (i.e. you will not get cash back for overages).

***Another tip I’ve learned with these is that once they have been scanned for redemption, they cannot be used again.  So if you accidentally give too many +Up rewards to the cashier and they get scanned, grab some other items to fill in the subtotal.  Otherwise you’re out the value of the +Up reward.

Single Check Rebates (SCR)

Rite Aid’s other rewards program is known as Single Check Rebates.  Each week the store circular will advertise items offering money back in the form of a check from Rite Aid after you’ve entered your receipt informationin your account.  Every month they also release a flyer advertising the monthly qualifying deals; many times there are items that are completely FREE after these deals!  The limit is normally one, but can sometimes go as high as five.  These are a great way to turn +Up rewards into cash and are extremely user friendly.  All you do is enter your receipt information at the end of the month (or if you’re like me, enter them as you go so you don’t lose them!) and then request your check!  Note you may only request one check per month, so make sure you’ve entered all your receipts before you ask them to mail it.  It should also be pointed out that there is only one rebate account allowed per household; rebate items normally show up in your account within a week.

***These checks are not mailed in envelopes, they look almost like postcards.  I’ve almost thrown these away on more than one occasion because they easily get mixed in with the weekly supermarket ads, so watch out for these!

Rite Aid Store Coupons

Rite Aid store coupons can be found in a few different places: they can be mailed to the e-mail associated with your Wellness+ Card, in the weekly circular and through their Video Values website.

The Video Values coupons are earned by signing up here and watching a few videos (commercials) to earn credits.  Each video produces a coupon for the advertised product.  Rite Aid also offers $1 coupons that can be used on any item in the store (except for previously mentioned excluded items).  These coupons can only be used once per account and expire the month after you watched the videos that earned them.  Any of  these Rite Aid issued coupons can be combined with a regular manufacturer coupon to maximize savings.

***Sometimes you can find Rite Aid total purchase coupons on Red Plum or Coupons.com.  Remember to hand these over FIRST to increase your savings!
