Layering your shadows to expand your palette!
Summon your inner child artist here, because I want your creativity to run rampant. This easy trick can expand your eye color palette and allow you to do the concocting: layer different combinations of cream and pencil liners beneath your powder shadows to create brand new colors, finishes, and intensities.
If you’re using a pencil, you can draw a few lines wherever you’d like (crease, lid, or brow bone), and quickly blend them out with your fingertip. Then simply layer the powder shadow on top. If you’re using a cream liner, take a small amount on your ring finger and blend it out wherever you’d like before adding your powder shadow. Using a waterproof liner will help ensure that no creasing occurs (or at the very least, use an eyelid primer underneath everything).
One can get a concentrated, rich color by layering similar-colored liners (black on black or purple on purple). Also, to deepen any shadow, black can be used underneath. This trick is also often used when creating a smoky eye, placing black eyeliner on the lid and topping it with black eye shadow. Using the liner underneath will produce an intense black. It’s fun to make completely new colors by mixing different shades of liners and shadows by layering, say, a blue and a purple, a green and a gold, or a brown and a silver. Layered glittery or satiny shadows and/or liners will produce a beautiful duo-chromatic effect. Here are some color combinations I’ve come up with (try out your own and you’ll see that the possibilities are endless!):
