I feel as though I’m in no position to write this article, seeing that the closest I’ve come to fruit in the last few weeks is the ketchup I’ve put on my fries (fun fact: tomatoes are fruits). I am going to motivate myself, and less importantly you (just kidding), with a recent study about the effects of fruits and veggies on skin.
A study conducted by the University of Saint Andrews has discovered that increasing fruit and vegetable intake can amplify the healthy red and gold tones in your skin. Researchers found that this color change was achieved after participants added one to three more servings of fruits and vegetables to their diet daily (although the National Health Service recommends five servings per day). In the same study, participants were asked to identify the healthier looking face among those who had increased their intake of fruits and vegetables, and they chose those who had three more servings than normal. The changes in skin tone were achieved in six weeks. Ross Whitehead, the lead researcher in this study expanded on this result: “The take-home message is that improving your diet also improves your appearance within a relatively short time frame.”
There’s your motivation—and it’s okay that it’s induced by vanity, because in the long run, your body will thank you as much as your face.
