On any given day I sit at a computer for upwards of 12 hours. As a result, I’ve developed the dreaded BB. Yeap, that’s right, I have Blogger Butt! It’s flat and awful and I it’s about time I did something about it. So when Best Buy asked me to try out the new Jawbone UP wrist sensor I was totally in!
“Live Better. Start Now. Jawbone UP. Track your sleep activity, steps, calorie intake and more with the Jawbone UP wrist sensor and free mobile app. UP gives you meaningful, personalized insights so you can make lasting improvements to your everyday life.”
So what’s so cool about the Jawbone UP? Well, to be honest, just about everything. This wrist sensor is an unobtrusive means of measuring your movement and sleep, which provides “sexy data” for you to analyze and use to set goals. It’s got a very comfortable fit and its waterproof so once it’s charged you can put it on and not have to worry about taking it off to shower, do laundry or give the kids a bath. It’s also got a super long battery life and stays charged for 10 days so you really need to do little maintenance with this guy.
There are a number of super cool features that make this guy worth every penny. The big ones? Tracking your movement and your sleep patterns. As you can see in the above screen shots, it doesn’t just tell you how many steps you’ve taken or how many hours you’ve slept. It gives you meaningful data that tells you how long you were active, how much you rested, how many calories were burned, etc. For the sleep patterns you can see how long you were in deep sleep, how long you were in light sleep, how long it took for you to fall asleep, how often you woke up, and more. It is simply amazing how much this guy knows, and it’s also very eye opening to get that much insight into your behaviors.
On top of tracking your every move and sleep patterns, it also has an area for you to input your food and caloric intake. You can do this by scanning a barcode, searching the UP’s nutritional database or you can log it by simply snapping a photo of your meal! It’s also got some great alarm functions that I ended up using quite a bit. My favorite? The Power Nap setting. Not only does it act as an alarm which wakes you with gentle vibrations, it also recommends the optimal amount of nap you need in order to feel refreshed based on your sleep data from the previous night. Pretty cool! The other alarm feature that I used constantly was the Idle Alert which lets you know when you’ve been sedentary too long – it really helped keep me motivated to get up and get moving.
While I’m not yet completely free of my BB, I am well on my way to a more active lifestyle and a lot of the motivation to do so is all thanks to my Jawbone UP. If you’re looking to delve into a more holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle, then the Jawbone UP is definitely your best asset.
