Being a fugal gal, I’m always looking to cut our monthly bills down to the bare bones necessities. But what do you do when it comes time to save on the necessities, like electricity? One option is to switch your home over to more energy efficient products, like the Insignia LED Light Bulb. This bulb is the next level in electrical conservation, which not only uses less of our precious resources, but saves you money as well!
We have been lucky enough to get to try these bulbs out for the past week, and all I can say is I’m sold! Upon inspection of the bulb, you’ll notice that the normal glass casing has been replaced by a hardy plastic exterior. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to replace an overhead light bulb only to drop it and have it shatter everywhere. Have you ever seen those suckers break? Glass goes everywhere; need less to say I was already impressed before we even plugged it in!
Upon installation we noticed that the light is much softer than the last round of fluorescent bulbs we had installed (which are supposed to be more energy efficient, but I’ll be honest, I never noticed a difference in our bills). The bulb we received was supposed to replace a 40W bulb and I found the light it cast to be very comparable. One big plus I also really liked about these is that they are dimmable! Many of the new fluorescent energy savers are not, so this was a major selling point for us. It was always such a pain having to buy special bulbs for the various dimmable lights we had in the house and trying to remember which kind went wear, so I like that this kind of bulb can really go anywhere and fit pretty much any light we have.
The cost to run these bad boys is what’s really exciting – for an entire year, this light bulb will cost you just $1.08 to run. $1.08! That’s $0.09 per month, or just 1/3 of a cent per day. Wow. In comparison, your average bulb will cost you somewhere near $9 per year to run. Multiply that times the number of bulbs in your house and you can see those number really add up. The Insignia LED Light Bulb reduces that cost by 75%, easily, so it certainly is a more frugal option. And did I mention how long this bulb should last you? More than 22 YEARS!
Aside from the fact that I won’t need to change the light bulbs for more than 20 years, I would say I’m pretty thrilled with these bulbs and I can’t wait to see how much we save from making the switch.
For those of you looking to make the jump to more energy and cost efficient light bulbs, you can currently purchase the Insignia LED Light Bulb at Best Buy for between $13.99 and $16.99 (that’s as low as $1.62 per year of use!).
