I think we can all agree, there’s just nothing like Mom’s home cookin’. It just tastes better, doesn’t it? For that reason I’ve asked my Mom to submit some of her favorite recipes for me to share with y’all each Monday. Let’s get cooking in the kitchen with Mom!
I don’t know about where you guys live, but here in Northern California it has been SO. COLD. It has been in the 20’s and 30’s at night and barely 50 during the day, which is a far cry from the 70 degree weather we had not 10 days ago. On these cold, cold days there’s just nothing better than a nice warm cup of homemade hot chocolate to take the chill off. This homemade hot chocolate recipe is my favorite – it’s SO much better than the powdered mixes and you can control the sweetness and chocolate content quite easily. Personally, I think the more chocolate the better, so I really pile on the chips!
How do you like your hot chocolate?
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/3 cups chocolate chips
- ¼ cup whipping cream (optional)
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- 2 tbsp Chocolate Sauce (optional)
Place whipping cream and sugar into a bowl and beat on high until peaks form. Set aside.
In a double broiler on the stovetop pour milk in and heat on med-low temperature. Slowly bring to a nice simmer. Please note: if you heat your milk too quickly it will curdle and your hot chocolate will be ruined, so be sure to do it low and slow.
Add in your Cocoa, Honey and Vanilla and whisk together. Once the mixture is simmering again, go ahead and hot drop in your chocolate chips; whisk until the chips are completely dissolved. When mixture is slowly boiling remove from heat and ladle into a mug and add your whipping cream, chocolate sauce and straw.
Enjoy!
