The benefits of almond milk have long been applauded when it comes to healthy eating, which is why in the past year our family has mostly replaced fluid dairy products with #SilkAlmondBlends. Cooking with almond milk is so easy – you can make smoothies with almond milk, baked goods, french toast, ice cream and lots more! And if you’re the type that likes a nice tall glass of milk, this amazing beverage is DELICIOUS – in fact, I quite prefer it to the taste of conventional dairy milk. So when #CollectiveBias asked me to show you guys how we use Silk Almond Blends in our home, I jumped at the opportunity!
We go through about a carton a week of Silk Almond Blends, so when we are running low I head to Safeway to stock up. I love that I know I can get a great deal and they always have a wide variety of Silk Almond Blends in stock. They’ve also got an awesome coupon policy, so don’t forget to grab your Silk coupons before you head to the store! Silk Almond Milk can be found among the other “milk” products in the dairy case and there is quite a variety to choose from – unflavored, vanilla, blends, non-blends and more!
This trip I chose Silk Almond Milk Protein+Fiber (Vanilla) and Silk Almond Coconut Blend (Unsweetened) as we use them both for a variety of different almond milk recipes. I like these two varieties for different reasons. Fist off, I love the Protein + Fiber variety because it not only tastes great, it has 50% more calcium than dairy milk, it is a great source of protein, vitamin E and fiber; and it has absolutely NO cholesterol or saturated fat. And secondly, I love the Almond Coconut Blend because it has many of the same attributes as the Protein+Fiber variety, plus it has a very mild sweet flavor that is very refreshing; it is perfect for eating cereal and drinking right out of a glass. It is also low cal – in fact it only has 35 calories per serving!
Because it has been so warm here in Sacramento, lately we’ve been using our Silk Almond Blends to make a lot of cool, icey cold drinks to cool off on these hot Summer days. In fact the first thing the girls requested upon seeing the carton of Silk Almond Coconut Blend in the refrigerator was a nice little drink we’ve concocted using chocolate hazelnut spread, Silk Coconut Almond Blend and ice. It’s super simple to make, but I’ll warn you – it is very decadent and highly addictive!
All you do is add about 1 and a half cups Silk Coconut Almond Blend (Unsweetened) to a half cup chocolate hazelnut spread and 2 cups ice. Blend until smooth and enjoy! The coconut is a perfect play off of the nutty, chocolate hazelnut spread and it makes for a very rich drink. A little goes a long way! If you like popsicles, it also freezes well and makes a darn good fudgsicle.
On the healthier side of things, Coach D and I make a daily habit of making healthy fruit smoothies with almond milk for breakfast. Coach D is lactose intolerant, so he especially loves that he can use Silk Almond Blends to achieve a creamier texture to his smoothies without having to pay the price of drinking dairy products. I love it because it has such great health benefits and it adds great flavor to any type of smoothie I make.
There is no real recipe to these, as we tend to vary it depending on what fruits are in season and on sale. This week Safeway happened to have some a nice price on some delicious fresh pineapple and sweet strawberries, so I tossed them in with a banana, some kale and of course our Silk Protein+Fiber Almond Milk. We also like to add some Flax Seed and Chia Seeds and then we just blend away! It’s a very refreshing smoothie and I love that the added protein from the Silk helps to keep me full until lunch time. That way I don’t snack during the morning, plus I get my daily does of fruits and veggies!
Adding Silk Almond Blends to our daily routine was a no brainer because of the awesome health benefits – it is also so incredibly versatile that it truly has become a staples in our household. We’ve mentioned our favorite ways to incorporate it into our routine, now I’d love to hear how you guys use it. What ways do you like to enjoy your Silk Almond Blends?

I’d love to use it mixed with light yogurt and bananas in a smoothie. Yum!
